Fourteenth Station

High Stations - Lourdes
Jesus is laid in the tomb

A final goodnight
The blessing of Shabbat for a beloved Son
May God bless you and protect you.
May God’s face shine toward you
and show you favour.
May God look favorably upon you
and grant you peace.
From my arms, Father, into yours
Rest in peace.

Twelfth Station

Chapel - Ampleforth Abbey
Jesus dies on the Cross

Why?
Hast thou forsaken me?
Last breath gasps in hope
Releasing the Spirit to Heaven’s Gate.
Drawing a veil over a grieving God.
Raging winds that roar a promise
No more, my Son;
There will be no more.

Tenth Station

The Hermitage - Assisi

Jesus is stripped of his clothing

No mercy
No prayerful hand reaches out in faith
Instead, fear tugs at his robes
Removing the remains of a life past
Seeking to shame
Revealing truth

Eighth Station

Medieval Woman Merchant - Hexham Cathedral
Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem

Mother’s hearts carry
The lament of the forsaken
Sorrow falls in drops onto baked stones
Fading prayers seeking heaven’s hand
Blessed are those who mourn
And find consolation.

Sixth Station

Veronica wipes the face of Jesus

Hands, brave yet gentle
Cradle his face
Soft swaddling takes the pain
Blood, sweat, tears
Gathered up
In folds of kindness
Never to be forgotten

Fourth Station

Jesus meets his mother

Eyes, then hearts meet
Arms that held the child hold the man
My body, my blood
My son.

Second Station

 Jesus receives the Cross

You said ‘Take my yoke upon you’
But we were too weary
And too wary to believe
That this way would bring rest.
Our burden is yours alone
